IT assets contain more than plastics
and metals and silicon. They also contain trade secrets,
financial information, client data, employee records,
software, and other invaluable information that amounts
to years of work. That’s why when the time comes
to retire or replace equipment containing your most sensitive
files, you want a company you can trust to remove your
data – carefully, thoroughly, and completely.
At Intechra, we make sure your confidential
data stays confidential. Our customized, proprietary
SecurITy process is a complete approach to IT asset
disposition – it not only ensures that all corporate
data and software are effectively cleaned from retired
hard drives, but also specifies the entire process
by which Intechra handles assets. From logistics services
and the tracking of assets within our processing center
to the final disposition of each asset and the serialized
audit trail, the SecurITy process allows us to offer
unsurpassed service, legislative compliance, protection,
and residual value capture. |

Our SecurITy process is DOD 5220.22-M compliant and
includes these steps:
- A certified drive-erasure program is initiated by
communicating with the hard drive through the BIOS.
- The drive is overwritten twice using ones and zeros,
followed by a third pass using random characters.
Any amount of recoverable data is unacceptable. We verify
our process using a number of methods:
- An Intechra production employee audits 100% of every
memory storage device we data wipe. The auditor verifies
that all data has been removed and that only random
characters are visible across the drive.
- 20% of the units we data wipe go on to an internal
quality control auditor who is independent of the production
area.
- Every month – unannounced – one of our
largest OEM customers visits our facilities and selects
a minimum of 50 units at random to audit.
- Every other month – on 24-hours notice – an
independent audit firm reporting directly to our board
of directors visits our facilities and selects 50 units
at random to audit.
- Every quarter, we send an unidentified internal Intechra
asset through our SecurITy process. This asset is then
sent to a data recovery company to determine whether
any data is recoverable.
Our third-party auditors have never uncovered a failure,
and the outside data recovery company has never found
any recoverable data on a unit that has gone through
the SecurITy process.
Intechra provides a range of options for erasing media
storage devices based on your security requirements.
Typically, IT assets are transported to an Intechra processing
center, where drives are sanitized or destroyed using
DOD 5220.22-M-compliant procedures. For organizations
that require a higher level of security, we offer hard
drive encryption, as well as the option of erasing drives
before they are transported. In all cases, Intechra warrants
the erasure results and indemnifies our customers against
unauthorized data transfer.
Whatever your company’s information security needs,
Intechra can provide a solution or suite of solutions
to meet them.
Intechra Processing Centers are fully protected by ADT Security Systems, and are under constant surveillance using digital camera systems. Only designated management employees possess keys to the Processing Centers, and employees enter and exit through a badge-controlled entry/exit point where they are positively identified through the use of the badge plus a hand scanner and video imaging. Badges have magnetic stripe encoding, barcode integration, and an integrated anti-counterfeiting watermark. Security is further enhanced through the use of walk-through and wand metal detectors. All visitors must register at the front desk, wear a visitor badge, and be accompanied by an employee while in the building.
Policies and procedures are in place to clearly identify and track all employees who handle each asset. When a shipment is received the unique Intechra identifier for each asset is entered into our asset tracking system. Intechra uses this to provide inventory control, tracking serial numbers, asset tags, configurations, and unit classification of all assets. One of the significant benefits of this is that assets can be located in the Processing Center immediately and we can clearly identify and track each employee that has handled each asset.
In addition, Intechra is selective in its hiring practices. First, professional and criminal background checks are performed for any candidate prior to employment. Secondly, all employees must comply with an established Drug and Alcohol Policy and are subject to random drug testing. And as an added measure of protection, Intechra employees do not directly access client data at any time. Our testing and drive erasure processes are completed by attaching the unit to a test fixture that communicates with the hard drive directly through the BIOS: as a result, Intechra employees do not have access to – and cannot view – the data on client assets.
