Frequently Asked Questions

Can Intechra meet our needs across multiple, geographically dispersed locations?
Intechra is the only fully integrated electronics lifecycle management (ELM) provider with a national footprint covering every region of the country. Intechra maintains processing facilities in Hartford, Connecticut; Merrimack, New Hampshire; Columbus, Ohio; Dallas, Texas; and Los Angeles, CA, averaging over 100,000 square feet in size, to ensure adequate capacity for major IT asset disposition initiatives.

This geographic distribution and Intechra’s plants with standardized processes plus our own national fleet of trucks and logistics centers provides unparalleled convenience and speed for transportation and processing of IT assets.

Should your needs include services outside of the United States, Intechra maintains a network of global partners to process assets in-country, thus ensuring low transportation costs and effective processing regardless of an asset’s location.

Since we remarket from a virtual inventory, you are assured the maximum financial return from the sale of your asset regardless of where it is processed.

How do I arrange a pickup?
Intechra Logistics provides turnkey logistics services for quick and efficient removal of assets from client facilities. The following steps will ensure a successful pickup:

Complete the Asset Pickup Request Form online at https://www.intechra.com/clients/pickup/, or complete and submit the Asset Pickup Request Form via email to logistics@intechra.com. Be sure to provide as much detail about the pickup as possible, paying particular attention to the number of assets or skids that will be transported. This information determines the size of truck that will be dispatched to the pickup location. Once we receive an asset pickup request, we will schedule the pickup within two business days.

Intechra logistics security specialists perform onsite logistics services based upon the requirements outlined on the Asset Pickup Request Form and in the negotiated Service Level Agreement. These specialists are qualified and trained to securely handle IT assets and ensure the chain of custody from client locations to Intechra’s facilities.

How am I indemnified from environmental and data security risks?

Intechra’s IT asset disposition process is environmentally responsible, and we assume legal liability for the proper disposition of serialized units (or units containing data), as well as provide this indemnification in writing to our clients.

Intechra carries insurance for the property of others to provide coverage in case any asset is damaged during shipping, testing, or storage before sale into the secondary market or in the unlikely event of a data security breach. Insurance coverage is based upon the fair market value of the asset. Intechra also carries environmental liability insurance to indemnify clients from any downstream recycling risk.

Will my asset tags be removed from each asset?
Yes. Intechra removes all identifying marks from each asset, including any asset tags. We check for a client’s asset tag or other identifying marks at four separate points during our disposition process to ensure all client-specific identifying tags and marks are removed.

What kind of reporting is available to me?
Intechra provides clients with detailed reporting for each pickup (manifest) we process. Available reports may include the following:

  • Receipt reporting
  • Inventory and/or settlement reporting
  • Need to provide additional detail here on what the reports include.

Intechra pioneered serialized reporting and therefore provides the most complete serialized reporting available in the industry. Reports are updated monthly, and are available in a variety of formats, including Access and Excel. The disposition reports list each asset by serial number, manufacturer, model, CPU speed, memory, hard drive size, and asset tag (if any), along with its final disposition. Based upon your requirements, Intechra can also provide custom uploads to a variety of IT asset management systems.

Will my assets end up in a landfill?

No. Intechra provides complete, environmentally responsible disposition of your assets. Assets are recycled following all U.S. EPA guidelines. Recycling partners adhere to the Intechra Pledge of Product Stewardship, in addition to all federal, state, and local guidelines. Intechra has a zero-landfill policy for eWaste.

How does your remarketing service work?
Intechra offers our clients the flexibility of choosing which plan best suits their needs for IT asset disposition:

  • A Consignment program, in which assets are consigned to Intechra and the majority of the sales proceeds are returned to the client, or
  • A Matrix program, in which a set value for each asset is returned to the client.

For both programs, clients pay a set asset-processing fee, which is offset in whole or in part by the residual value of the assets. In all cases, Intechra pricing includes all administrative costs, full ITAD recycling services, and settlement reporting, plus indemnification against any downstream privacy or recycling liability.

Many Intechra clients pay for a significant portion of their IT asset disposition program through the sales proceeds generated from assets sold to employees or the general public. These clients understand that investing in Intechra services contributes to their organization’s bottom line and reduces TCO.

How does Intechra remarket my equipment?

Intechra is a market maker in the secondary market for information technology. Our superior knowledge of the secondary market allows us to accurately assess and maximize the residual value of your assets, thereby allowing your organization to more effectively generate revenue to offset asset-processing fees. Our competitors do not have the varied remarketing channels necessary to achieve these results; predominantly they only have broker channels, resulting in significantly lower remarketing proceeds.

The Intechra website and retail store have a history of satisfying retail customers. With the secondary market’s strongest warranty, a broad selection of technology platforms, and unparalleled customer service, our reputation for quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction helps us maintain long-term client relationships, consistently strong foot traffic in our retail location, and explosive growth in our web traffic.

In addition, Intechra has developed deep channels in both specialty dealer markets and international dealer markets covering broad-based demand for nearly any information technology asset. Intechra knows which channels will yield the greatest financial return, in the shortest length of time, and leverages this expertise to maximize our client’s remarketing proceeds.

Based upon the superior performance of Intechra’s remarketing channels, we have invested in over 350,000 square feet of processing capacity, with the majority of that dedicated to asset refurbishment and retail remarketing. Intechra boasts the lowest asset failure rate in the industry, indicating our commitment to refurbishing more of our clients’ assets, maximizing remarketing proceeds, and lowering their TCO.

Are Intechra’s processing facilities ISO certified?

Intechra is ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 certified. Intechra maintains a leadership position within the National Recycling Coalition to monitor and influence environmental policy development, and is active within the International Association of Electronic Recyclers (IAER) and the U.S. EPA in defining recycling and refurbishment best practices promoted around the world. Finally, Intechra proudly adheres to an ITAD zero-landfill target.

How does Intechra manage its downstream recycling partners?

As a 20-year pioneer in the global IT asset disposition services industry, Intechra has well-established relationships with – and consistent environmental audit records for – its downstream network of scrap material recyclers and processors. This ensures not only downstream recycler/processor compliance with the environmental, health, and safety regulations of the states and countries in which they operate, but also conformance with all of Intechra’s stringent environmental policies and directives. Intechra’s downstream recycler and processor standards are the strictest in the ITAD industry and include restrictions on the use of prison and child labor, U.S. government trade bans, and using recycled material in the manufacturing of weapons of mass destruction. The Intechra Environmental Affairs Department audits and manages all downstream recycler and processor relationships, and ensures compliance with the Basel Action Network’s Pledge of True Stewardship, which restricts the transboundry movement of hazardous eWaste to developing nations.

Does Intechra export hazardous waste overseas?

No we do not. Intechra uses the services of highly qualified – and fully audited – partners for its downstream recycling services. Intechra audits not only our primary downstream recycling processors, but also all secondary downstream processors. Each downstream processor that recycles material that contains hazardous constituents is audited all the way to the final end-market. Intechra is justifiably proud of our network of fully audited U.S. partners, and we consider this network a unique competitive advantage.

Intechra is also a member of the Basel Action Network (www.ban.org), a global network of toxics and development activist organizations that share a vision of international environmental justice. The Basel Action Network seeks to prevent all forms of “toxic trade” – in toxic wastes, toxic products, and toxic technologies. Intechra was one of the first companies to sign the Electronics Recycler’s Pledge of True Stewardship, sponsored by the Basel Action Network.
